Local Backyard Bees

Beginner’s Guide to Backyard Beekeeping

About

Local Backyard Bees is a website dedicated to helping beginners learn as much as they can about beekeeping before buying their bees and hives.

Our mission is to help beekeepers through education, promotion, resources, and collaboration. We are a hub of authoritative information about beekeeping, and we aim to help you find the best beekeeping courses and connect you with local beekeeping associations, clubs, and mentors.

From a backyard beekeeper to a hobby farmer, it’s rewarding to learn how to keep bees and source honey directly from your backyard bees.

Melissa Honeywell

 Hello,

My name is Melissa Honeywell, and I love to study bees, their behaviour, and their complex society. I find it amazing how each bee has a specific role in the hive, and how their collective efforts produce honey, wax, and pollen.

From a young age, I spent hours on my parent’s hobby farm. I loved to observe and help my father tender to his honey bees to ensure they had everything they needed to thrive.

Beekeeping brings me much joy, and I know how hard it can be, so I have created this website to help others learn about beekeeping.

I aim to share my love of bees and the importance of bee conservation. By working together, we can create a world where bees thrive, and we can all benefit from the important work they do.

Enjoy the journey!

Melissa
